It appears that this choice is related to the flexibility that online television offers. People already submit to schedules imposed by other people in other domains of life, for example in their jobs, that is why they choose online television because they can choose what they want to see and when they want to see it.

This kind of television has its advantages like watching repeatedly favorite programs.

First online television can be television through web, using a player flash from the browser and secondly it can broadcast their programs, for example exclusively interviews. Some online television managers avoid these words, using instead of it video online or on demand. Confusion can be triggered by the question Joost or YouTube. Is You Tube television? Then what is television online or more precisely, what television is.

In dictionaries, it is defined as the technique of transmitting at a distance image of moving objects via video waves. People in general do not understand what video waves are; therefore, you can ignore the way of broadcasting and consider television even watching a film on DVD. To continue with, a television, which can send via internet protocol the signal it will emit, will still be considered traditional television. After all, normal radios, which broadcast via internet, do not change their pattern at all. The difference between traditional and online television consists in the bidirectional feature, the interactivity of the internet.

You can imagine that technology will evolve so that it will allow not only broadcasting moving image, but also the completely 3D model of a remote space. For example, imagine a stadium where a football game is played. You could have the possibility to watch, whenever you want, everything from any angle you want, or maybe establish fixed cameras and commute between them just like the broadcasting director. Moreover, you can click on a player and you can find out everything about him…

Online television has progressed towards mainstream when BBC released a service of required programs based on the new BBC iPlayer. However, maybe this kind of service cannot be called television. Does the definition of television tend to change?

The star of the moment is the old and the young forever BBC, which has been considered in the top of broadcasting technologies.
After four years of development and more than three million pounds invested, BBC Trust has approved the release of the new iPlayer, the essential part which will bring television to the internet era. A beta version for Windows XP is offered to the large audience, as well as versions for other Windows systems like Vista and Mobile and for Mac OS X.

Essentially, BBC iPlayer will continue what BBC has already done in the domain of the radio. If in this domain the approach is based on webcasting, TV programs will use a peer to peer technology in order to be downloaded on the client computer, where they can be watched via BBC iPlayer and they will meet DRM system requirements (Digital Rights Management), so that they can be available only for 30 days and they cannot be sent to other user or copied on external supports, thus protecting copyright. The client program offers as well an electronic programs guide, which will include the list of programs during the last and next 7 days. This also allows the selection of some future programs, which will be downloaded automatically when they become available.

HBO, the cable operator belonging to Time Warner in the USA is taking into account the possibility of releasing a new channel on the internet, having AOL as partners. This channel is going to broadcast new programs, original ones and it will be available for clients who have subscribed for the classical television system. Chris Albrecht, executive manager of HBO, has declared for Financial Times that any service provided via the internet will need partnership with other cable operators. Last year, more television channels like Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS started to provide part of their programs to be downloaded from the internet, either directly, via proper sites, either via partners like My Space, Google, or Apple.

This approach should offer the company the access to larger audience, like primary or secondary school students or students at universities. They could find there information and entertainment as both are necessary at their ages. The operator has recently announced a joint venture with an online comedy channel belonging to AOL, known as This Just In. The site will contain short movies produced by HBO and a blog. This may be extremely successful nowadays because laughing helps release tension and stress accumulated during a hard work or school day. Meanwhile, HBO keeps promoting the VOD (Video on Demand) service, which allows the users of digital television service via cable watch HBO programs whenever they want. Actually, irrespective of the profile of an organization, the success recipe’s main ingredient is high quality, mixed with clients’ satisfaction.

According to statistics, it appears that in Norway people still read newspapers, which is not a common approach in most other countries. However, they are more and more convinced that the future belongs to online television and to You Tube. The problem of the new media department in Norway at this moment is how to distribute effectively their content on the internet, as it appears that people can easily switch from paper to VDU. This media department owns commercial license, therefore they have immense opportunities of exploring the internet. They do not have to spend too much time trying to develop business patterns, as broadcasting corporation in Norway has professionals especially trained on this purpose.

Their mission is only to get to more Norwegians through the communication channel that they use the most frequently, the internet.

People want to control content. In general, the message of any traditional television was “You have to watch the news now, because we are broadcasting them now.” Well, on the internet users can decide on their own when they are watching the news or any other content. However, at least in Norway, there is higher audience in the case of traditional television than in the case of online one, and at least for the moment.
As far as traditional television audience is concerned, in a country having about 4 million inhabitants, during the most popular programs there is about 1.2 – 1.3 million viewers.

This can be considered a huge rating for popular shows, compared with 1 million unique users of the internet television, per week.

Now, most of the online television approaches want high and quick traffic, especially from advertising. Nevertheless, a good television online will increase traffic gradually and loyally .

One example of online television, which can be successful for sure, is oriented towards health problems. Obviously, the investment can be considerable, but the outcome has all the chances to be qualitative. In general, profit can be obtained in six month since an online television is launched, and this television must function perfectly in maximum one year. Such an investment can be covered in about two years.
In general, sums of money used for an online television are lower than sums of money used for a classical television and this is an advantage of choosing such a support.

The idea of creating a health related television online came from the wish to set a bridge between visual and the way of sending information on the internet. Moreover, this idea is related to the people’s orientation towards the internet, looking for information.

This television does not want to lose anything but the prices of rate cards for this television will be affordable.
The target of the television is made of people with ages between eighteen and forty-five years old, who have access to the internet.

To conclude, online television niche market becomes more and more interesting for investors. Apart from health, related televisions there are televisions related to news, business, internet or lifestyle and all of them will have audience as long as the programs will satisfy any visitor.

We do not want angry people

An online television can be based on financing from different companies, or from sources, which have their own income.

A terrible item of news would be that most of online televisions do not want to make people angry at their classical advertising during television programs, at their beginning or during shows. However, there will be alternative ways of advertising, which will be a surprise. However, any new online television at the beginning will have minimum income, but their slogan must be: “We don’t want angry people!” Thus, irrespective of the income, they must be based on real values for the visitor of the site.

Most online televisions have a simple approach related to the fact that any good product can be sold. This means three things; first, you must know your audience very well, secondly it means creativity and then it means quality in performance. Overall, it means a very good team, which is necessary in any organization. From this point of view, a new television online must hire the best marketing experts in order to offer them professional and effective solutions. Besides, the audience and their opinions expressed directly are very important as well.

Irrespective of the country, people are almost the same when they want to watch a television program. Therefore, in a short time online televisions seem to compete with classical ones. To continue with these online televisions have a huge potential and as long as their visitors are satisfied, they have all the chances to progress.
