Jericho TV Show

Jericho was a short-lived TV show that was set in the small town of Jericho, Kansas within a United States that had suddenly come under nuclear attack. The show followed the characters of the town as they attempted to adapt to the dangers of the attacks, the uncertainty and fear that the attacks brought about, and the attempts of the townspeople to adjust for the future. The town was headed by Mayor Green, with help from his son Eric and his recently returned prodigal son, Jake Green. Robert Hawkins provided some mystery and intrigue in the show due to his mysterious role – at times it was unknown whether he had been a CIA agent trying to break into a terrorist cell that ultimately set off the nuclear bombs, or whether his true sympathies were actually with the terrorists. By the end of the first season, it was apparent that he was, after all, one of the “good guys”.

The show was cancelled after the completion of its first season. A fan movement sought to convince the producers to overturn their earlier decision and to continue the show after all. The movement took inspiration from a scene within the show where Skeet Ulrich’s character, Jake, replies to a request for surrender by saying, “Nuts!” Thus, the organizers of the movement for the show’s continuation asked fans to send in a small bag of nuts to the network headquarters to symbolize their support. The producers agreed to extend the show for another short season, but the ratings were not high enough and the show was not continued after that point.
